DEERS Enrollment

The DEERS office is no longer accepting certificates of live birth to register newborns. A certificate of live birth is typically issued to parents of newborn children, by the facility that the birth took place. The certificate of live birth is normally used until the parents receive the official birth certificate and Social Security number for the child.
DEERS offices nationwide are no longer accepting these certificates and will only add a newborn to DEERS once the official Birth Certificate and Social Security card are presented to them. This is causing some confusion when it comes to the child receiving healthcare. For the child to officially be enrolled in a TRICARE program and be assigned a PCM they need to be enrolled in DEERS.

When a child is born and needs to be seen at the RAHC Pediatric Clinic the parents need to contact the Reynolds Patient Administration Division at 580-558-8607. Patient Administration will register the child in MHS GENESIS and the system will generate a DoD ID number for that child. Please note that MHS GENESIS will generate a DOD ID number for the child, and Patient administration will provide that DOD ID number to the parent. The parent needs to take that DOD ID number to DEERS as soon as possible to ensure that DEERS does not generate another DOD ID number. If that happens there will be a duplicate patient with different information and it is very difficult to remedy that situation.

Once registered in MHS GENESIS the child is allowed to be seen at RAHC, however,  it will not allow them to be seen off post, due to the child not being in DEERS and not being enrolled in a TRICARE program. If the child needs to be referred to an off post provider for specialty care the mothers original OB referral will cover the child for 90 days.

Once they receive the official birth certificate and social security number they need to take that to the DEERS/ID card section in BLDG. 4700 on Fort Sill to get the child enrolled with DEERS. Once the child is enrolled in DEERS they need to call Tricare East at 1-800-444-5445 to get the child enrolled in TRICARE Prime and be assigned a PCM at RAHC. The typical turn around time for birth certificates and SSNs has been about 7 days.
